ONE SET.
One set, taken to failure. Then you rest.
Mike Mentzer’s high-intensity training as an iPhone app. One workout every four to seven days.
A set, counted live.
Four up, two held, four down.
The set
One working set per exercise, to the rep that will not go. There is no second set.
The count
Four seconds up, two held, four down. A voice counts, so your eyes stay on the weight.
The log
One question after every set: could you have done one more full rep? A yes earns no record.
The rest
Workouts sit four to seven days apart, as the book prescribes. A rest day checked in keeps the streak alive.
One set to failure is the whole stimulus. More sets add fatigue and no growth.
The method is Mike Mentzer’s, from High-Intensity Training the Mike Mentzer Way by Mike Mentzer with John Little (McGraw-Hill, 2003), chapter 13.
A workout takes up to 30 minutes at first and 10 to 12 with practice. Both numbers are the book’s.
